Hotels with Extras in Vermont

Vermonters love their longstanding dairy farms (you see the cow as a logo everywhere in the state), so it’s not a stretch for a real working family farm to do double duty as an inn. Yep, Vermont’s got that: inns on or very close to farms, where guests may visit the barn, watch or help with chores, bottle-feed a calf, pick vegetables or berries. Farms are in the river valleys between mountains, so mountain sports like hiking and fly-fishing are also close at head. Another benefit to a farm-based lodging is the breakfast. Food so fresh you feel invigorated for a day’s work – or play – at the farm.

Fulfilling farm experience part of the package at this down-home inn

You can stay in an ordinary hotel – or you can stay in an inn that is also a working farm! At Liberty Hill Farm & Inn, days begin with a full farm breakfast (can you smell the coffee cake hot from the oven?). And then? Well, you can milk one of the farm’s 270 cows or bottle-feed a newborn calf. In summer, you can pick fresh veggies or go berry-piking; in the colder weather, head to the barn and cuddle with some farm kittens. Recreation ranges from tubing down the White River and fly-fishing to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Or maybe you want to walk through wildflowers or, after an award-winning dinner, just gaze at the stars.
