Shipwreck Tours – Vergennes Now through October 31, 2009 Guided tours of area shipwrecks will be offered throughout the summer, shedding light on the 400-year legacy of underwater cultural resources of Lake Champlain. Stephen Knapp: Light Paintings
Brattleboro Museum and Art Center – Brattleboro Now through July 26, 2009 Stephen Knapp’s light-paintings exist at the nexus of painting, sculpture, and technology. Each light-painting is generated by white light which travels across a series of cut and polished glass shapes. The pieces of glass have been treated with layers of metallic coatings that split, reflect, and splay color across the surrounding environment. Vermont Symphony Orchestra Summer Festival Tour – Middlebury, Ludlow, Randolph, Chittenden, Quechee, Manchester, Grafton, Shelburne, Stowe Now through July 5, 2009 The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Festival Tour observes Lake Champlain’s 400th anniversary this season, as the orchestra travels to nine locations around the state to perform “The Lake Effect,” a program marking Samuel de Champlain’s discovery of Vermont’s great lake in 1609. The VSO pays tribute to Champlain with Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” and a program both Gallic and aquatic: an overture by Berlioz, a medley from “Les Misérables,” selections from Handel’s Water Music, show tunes from “South Pacific,” and more. At the end of the concert, Sousa’s “Hands Across the Sea March” and celebratory fireworks lend a dramatic bon soir. Time: 7:30 p.m. at all sites. Fourth of July Parade & Celebration
-- Randolph, Vermont July 4, 2009 Making It in Vermont is the theme for this year's Fourth of July Parade & Celebration. The parade starts at 10 a.m. near Gifford Medical Centter, winds down Maple and Earle streets and back to Main Street via Highland Avenue. It then continues down the hill on Main Street until School Street. The Panhandler Steel Band and the South Royalton Town Band will perform in the parade. The celebration starts directly after the parade on Merchants Row with food, performances, and games available. Performers at the Celebration will be the Panhandler Steel Band and John Mahan on slide guitar and Barry Vermont on hand drums.
